Strengthening Patient Safety Through Continuous Nursing Education at Tabba Kidney Institute

On Saturday, 6th December 2025, the Nursing Department at Tabba Kidney Institute successfully conducted an in-house professional training session from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the institute’s Seminar Room. This educational initiative reflects TKI’s continued commitment to enhancing patient safety, clinical excellence, and emergency preparedness through ongoing staff development.

Multidisciplinary Participation

The session was attended by a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including nursing staff, critical care nurses, doctors, and dialysis technicians from both the Dialysis Hall and Hi-Flux units. The active participation ensured a collaborative learning environment focused on practical, real-world clinical challenges.

The first session was led by Dr. Mazhar Shah, Deputy Chief Pharmacist at Baqai University, who delivered a detailed presentation on Crash Cart Management. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a well-organized and fully functional crash cart to ensure rapid and effective response during medical emergencies. The session covered proper usage protocols, restocking and replacement procedures, regular audits, expiry checks, and safety standards essential for emergency readiness.

High-Alert Medications

Dr. Muskan addressed the critical topic of High-Alert Medications, highlighting the risks associated with medication errors and their potential impact on patient safety. She discussed best practices for safe handling, storage, and administration of high-risk medications, along with strategies to minimize errors and improve overall clinical outcomes.

Drug Dilution and Efficacy

The third session was conducted by Dr. Zakaullah, who provided clear and practical guidance on Drug Dilution and Efficacy. His talk focused on correct dilution techniques, medication stability, concentration accuracy, and drug compatibility. Emphasis was placed on precision in medication preparation to ensure maximum therapeutic effectiveness and patient safety.

The primary objectives of the training session were:
